Kanji learning mobile application
This Kanji learning mobile application was designed to help users memorize Kanjis through revision features and various quizzes. A playful approach based on scientifically proven memorization methods.
01The context
This mobile application was designed to simplify the complex learning of Japanese Kanjis. Kanjis represent one of the most challenging aspects of learning Japanese, with over 2,000 characters to master for fluent-level reading.
The pedagogical approach relies on a scientifically proven method: visual association memorization. Each Kanji is paired with a mnemonic illustration that helps users remember its meaning and pronunciation.
02The product
The app offers several learning modes: structured lessons organized by difficulty level, spaced repetition sessions based on the forgetting curve, and varied quizzes to test acquired knowledge. Quizzes include visual recognition, meaning-character matching, and guided writing.
A progression system allows users to track their advancement and identify Kanjis that need more work. Detailed statistics show success rates by category and average memorization time.
03The outcome
The interface was designed for short, regular sessions, ideal for daily 10-15 minute practice — the most effective format according to cognitive science research.
