Ed — My Health Assistant (Totum)
Ed is the consumer-facing app from French pharmacy group Totum that lets anyone chat with a pharmacist, send a prescription by photo, set up automatic refills for ongoing treatments, and find their local pharmacy. A true daily health companion.
01The context
We built this project using a process refined over 12 years of mobile app development. The key advantage is working directly with the developer. No agency layer. No miscommunication. Just clear, focused work. The result is an app built for real users, with strong performance and easy long-term maintenance.
Ed — My Health Assistant is the consumer-facing app from Totum, a French cooperative of independent pharmacists. The goal is simple: bring the pharmacist back to the center of day-to-day healthcare, right in the patient's pocket.
At the core of the app is a secure chat between the user and their preferred pharmacy. A patient with a sore throat, flu-like symptoms, or a quick medication question can open Ed, pick their pharmacy, and within seconds be talking to a real pharmacist. The pharmacist asks the right follow-up questions, suggests a treatment, and shares trusted health information as follow-up reading.
02The product
In short: we mix solid technical skills with product thinking. First, we study your business needs and your users. Then we design a clear plan. We build step by step, with regular check-ins. The final app follows Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and Google's Material Design standards.
The most important factor is transparency. You get regular updates and access to test builds. You see every technical choice we make. We run automated tests, code reviews, and speed checks. This ensures a reliable product from day one.
The second pillar is prescription handling. Users snap a photo of their prescription (or import a PDF), send it to their pharmacy, and choose a fulfillment option: pick up in store within minutes, or home delivery. Ed also supports automatic refills for long-term treatments — no more forgotten renewals, no more unnecessary trips.
The third pillar is the local pharmacy map. Ed shows all Totum partner pharmacies near the user, with opening hours, phone number, website and directions. A traveling patient can quickly find an open pharmacy and send their prescription in a few taps.
03The outcome
Every app we deliver is built for real use. We target loading times under 2 seconds and a crash-free rate above 99.5%. We also track user satisfaction through in-app feedback. According to Statista, nearly 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile. App quality is a key business advantage.
On the technical side, Ed is built natively on iOS and Android. All the business logic is synchronized with Totum's back-office — product info, stock, orders, promotions — so the patient experience stays consistent with what's happening at the counter.
This project was delivered as lead mobile developer: architecture, development, API integrations, store submissions on both Apple and Google, and ongoing maintenance. A concrete example of how a well-designed app can make healthcare more accessible, faster, and more human — without ever replacing the pharmacist; in fact, the opposite.
